Spicy Roasted Makhana/ Lotus Seeds/ Fox Nut

Makhanas is also known as Fox nuts or Lotus seeds. It has got a lot of health benefits and is hence is considered a superfood. Spicy Roasted Makhana is one of the most flavoury and spicy snacks with a blend of Indian and Italian spices.

  • Phool Makhana/ Fox nut/ Lotus Seeds        2 Cups  
  • Butter                                                                   1 tbsp.
  • Cheese                                                                  2-3 tbsp.
  • Chilli Powder                                                      ¼ tsp
  • Chat Masala                                                        ¼ tsp
  • Ginger Garlic Powder                                       ¼ tsp
  • Turmeric Powder                                               ¼ tsp
  • Pepper Powder                                                   ¼ tsp
  • Italian seasoning                                                1 tsp
  • Salt                                                                        Per your taste


  1. In a Kadai add a Tbsp. of butter. Once the butter melts start adding Phool Makhana/ Fox nut/ Lotus Seeds.
  2. Keep Roasting on medium to low flame for 5 mins.
  3. Once it is almost roasted, start adding spices and herbs such as pepper powder, chili powder, turmeric powder, chat masala, ginger-garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  4. Mix well all the spices with Makhana.
  5. Now add grated cheese and mix until the cheese is evenly coated.
  6. Finally add salt and mix well. Spicy Roasted Makhana is ready!!!. Serve immediately to enjoy the crispiness.

Points to be noted

  1. Change from medium to low flame to avoid burning of Makhana. 
  2. If you are a cheese/ butter lover, you can increase their quantity.
