Ajwain Cookies - Omam Biscuits - Carom Seeds Cookies

Please your kids by preparing this delicious cookie in under 30 mins of time. This cookie is made using wheat flour and hence is a guilt-free snack. This recipe is made by using wheat flour, butter, sugar, and Ajwain/Omam/Carom seeds and is cooked on the stovetop. If stored in an airtight container can last for about 2 weeks.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour / Atta - 1 Cup
  • Butter (melted) – 40 ml
  • Powdered Sugar - 1/4 Cup
  • Baking Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Baking Soda - 1/8 tsp
  • Salt – per taste
  • Water - 1/4 Cup
  • Ajwain/Omam/Carom Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Directions

Preparing the cookie dough:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine butter (melted) & powdered sugar by using a whisk or electrical mixer.
  • Once combined, sieve & add wheat flour, baking soda, and baking powder to the sugar-butter mixture.
  • Add salt, water, &  Ajwain/Omam/Carom Seeds and gently knead it together to form a soft cookie dough consistency.
  • Let the dough rest for 10 mins.

Shaping & cooking Ajwain Cookies:

  • After 10 mins of resting, start rolling the dough into ¼ inch thickness using a rolling pin.
  • Once rolled, cut to desired shapes using a cookie cutter.
  • Remove the excess dough and keep it aside. Repeat steps 1, 2 & 3 of shaping & cooking Ajwain/Omam/Carom Seeds Cookies for the remaining cookie dough.
  • Transfer the prepared cookie to the greased plate.
  • Add 1 to 2 cups of salt to a heavy-bottomed vessel.
  • Preheat the vessel on low flame for about 8 mins (if using microwave oven preheat the oven @ 200°C for about 8-10 mins).
  • Carefully place the greased plate in the vessel/oven.
  • Cook on low flame for about 15 mins (in case of microwave oven cook for about 12-15 mins @ 200°C).
  • After 15 mins, check whether the cookies are done, if not keep cooking for few more minutes.
  • Let the cookie cool down before serving. Once cooled, cookies will turn crispier.

Points to be noted

  • Do not over knead the dough. Over kneading results in the cracking of cookies.
  • Room temperature melted butter gives crispier and good-shaped cookies.
